Dororo (ドロロ), formerly known as Zeroro (ゼロロ), is a main character in the anime and manga series Keroro Gunso. He is of the rank Lance Corporal (兵長 Heichō)[RANKS] and he is a part of the Keroro Platoon. He is a kindhearted pacifist but also a fierce fighter. He used to be one of the best assassins in the Keron Army, but upon arrival on Earth he chose a life of serenity as a ninja, and swore to protect the planet.

Character[]

Dororo is the last character to reunite with the Keroro platoon on Earth, acting cold towards them at first, before ultimately making up with Keroro and the others. He normally acts respectful to everyone, regardless of their respective social standing.

Since childhood, Dororo was a sensitive figure, being prone to crying when upset. While more composed as an adult, he is still quick becoming emotional in comedic moments. Likewise, he is quite susceptible to Keroro's manipulations, so long as it does not involve harming innocents.

In his adulthood, Dororo spends most of his time training, meditating, reading, doing nature-related works, or spying on the actions of others. He generally has a strong sense of morality, alongside a kind demeanor.

However, as noted by Kururu, Dororo is actually even more terrible at reading the atmosphere than Giroro himself, to the point of unintentionally harassing Keroro when he was seriously ill[1]. Combined with a lack of assertiveness, Dororo is often ignored by others, something which saddens him.

While profusely refusing to participate in acts that are potentially harmful to innocents, Dororo is willing to help his platoon in non-violent plans, provided that he is not forgotten. Likewise, he enjoys engaging in playful activities, such as making Keronian bread with Keroro. Dororo also has a terrible sense of humor, being the only one to laugh at corny puns.

Ironically, despite being the main reason for the Keroro platoon's lack of success at invading Pekopon, Dororo apparently expects regular payment from the Keron army, being outright furious whenever it is not given[2].

Powers and abilities[]

In terms of pure combat skill, very few surpass Dororo. He is capable of stopping planetary threats, such as the Keroro Platoon's secret weaponry. Furthermore, Dororo's lack of presence and training allow him to be nearly undetected when engaging in espionage. By channeling his energy, Dororo can use both Assassin Magic and Ninjutsu to great effect, controlling the elements itself.

In the manga, Dororo is a capable engineer, having assisted Kururu at one point. Furthermore, the anime shows Dororo as the most competent robot fighter among the Keroro platoon, becoming extremely empowered whenever using the Dororo robot.

Weaknesses[]

At times, Dororo's straight-laced personality can border onto sheer foolishness, something even Koyuki will note from time to time[3]. Likewise, he is prone to sulking whenever forgotten by others, instead of simply asserting himself[4]. In the anime, he also has a "trauma switch", which turns on whenever remembering a painful memory. In this state, Dororo becomes completely useless. However, said state also protects him from harm, allowing Dororo to withstand intense coldness at one point.

Appearance[]

Dororo symbol

Shuriken, Dororo's symbol

Dororo is a light blue Keronian. Throughout his childhood, he wore a yellow hat and a medical mask, possibly due to a weak immune system. When he was a Keron soldier he wore a white, military uniform-style hat like the other Keronians; after becoming a ninja he began wearing a white cap with grey shrouds in place of flaps.

The symbol on his forehead is a red, four pronged shuriken while on his chest is the same symbol but yellow. When he was an assassin, he wore a green gas mask and also wore a white bracelet on his right hand that could be turned into a gauntlet. As a ninja, Dororo dons a grey ninja mask and sheath for his Katana strapped to his back. Dororo's afro is light pink. Dororo is 55.5 centimeters tall (1'8 feet).

Childhood[]

For more information see Chibi Dororo/Zeroro

Young Zeroro, lived with his mom in a large luxurious mansion. His father seemed to be largely abscent due to work. It's been mentioned throughout the series that Dororo had a little brother that we barely see or hear.

Although a member of a large and wealthy family, Zeroro was a demure, weak, and shy child, who initially had a hard time making friends due to his nature aswell as his frequent transferring between new schools. It wasn't until Keroro approached him that he finally made his first friend, becoming attatched and important to him.

Keroro and Giroro became his classmates and closest friends. They shared their toys, played at eachother's houses, and made a secret base for themselves in an old construction site.

Zeroro often just tags along with Keroro's and Giroro's wild adventures, and almost seemed incapable of independent thought, as he always leeched off of Keroro and Giroro. He did not like to do dangerous or forbidden things but often went alongside his friends anyway, as he wanted to prove himself. Later on, Pururu, the class beauty, also joined their group.

As a demure child he was often exploited by Keroro which led to some of the trauma's that he holds today. Initially Keroro wanted Zeroro to be braver and more independant by putting him in dire situations, but it later turned to just child mischief on Keroro's end. He often took advantage of Zeroro and could be insensitive to his feelings, but they still remained close friends who'd go everywhere together.

It was eventually Keroro who inspired him to become a Keron army assassin. He wanted to become one because Keroro praised him for pulling off a high jump of a playground swing, enthusiastically saying: "You are going to be an assassin for sure!".

History[]

Zeroro graduated from the Keron Military Academy under the rank of lance corporal. He worked as a part of Jirara's assassin corps, the X1. Zeroro was eventually chosen as the number 1 Assassin, but he couldn't become a true Master Assassin as according to Jirara: his fame, aswell as his kind heart, goes against the nature of an assassin who is meant to blend into the darkness and be forgotten by all.

It's shown in a flashback that Zoruru and him used to be sparring partners in X1, and even shown much later that Zoruru went to the same school with him as a child. However he was never noticed by him, as Zeroro ran off to talk and become friends with Keroro. This, and how he overtook him in the assassin's rank, could've started Zoruru's hatred towards him.

After his time in X1 and getting nominated as the top assassin: he was later formally assigned as a part of the Keroro Platoon alongside Giroro, Tamama and Kururu. They were given the mission to conquer Pekopon.

When the platoon landed on Pekopon and were scattered, he somehow managed to get himself caught in a bear trap. He waited for the platoon to come back to save him but they didn't seem to come. Feeling sad and abandoned: he promptly accepted his inevitable, lonely death until he was saved and taken to the ninja village by the kunoichi Koyuki Azumaya. In the anime, Zeroyasha, Koyuki's friend dog, was the first one to have found him in the trap.

Zeroro renamed himself Dororo to fit in with the ninja village and to rid himself of his past associations. He felt betrayed by his platoon crew and became enthralled by the village, wanting to learn the ways of the ninja himself. His respect for Koyuki saving his life changed his mindset about invading and instead made him feel as if Pekopon should be respected as any other planet. After he learned everything he could, the Chief Elder of the Village announced that he'd disband all Ninja's to go into the modern world. Thus, he headed with Koyuki towards the city.

For a time, he and Koyuki took out aliens who wanted to scam humans and focused somely on keeping peace. It wasn't until Koyuki befriended Natsumi and found out about the Keroro platoon in her household that Dororo came back to join them.

It took awhile for him to warm up to them as he held a few grudges towards being left behind and mistreated, but eventually he did. Before that he kept his distance and acted cold, using violence if they overstepped his boundaries. But it's after seeing how easygoing the platoon could be and how caring they are to their human companions, that he came to accept them and call them his friends once again.

Dororo prefers to forget about his past, as his childhood tends to turn him into a crybaby and his time in X1 disturbs him. He also doesn't support his old ways as a Keron soldier either, and has devoted himself to be his peaceful ninja-self.

Relationships[]

When these two talk, my heart swellls
  • Keroro - Keroro is shown to have been Dororo's first friend at their school, allowing the latter to join his inner circle. Thus, Dororo normally holds him in high regard, if resenting all the times Keroro mistreated him. Likewise, Keroro will show respect for Dororo from time to time, more so as adults.
  • Giroro - Alongside Keroro, Giroro is Dororo's closest friend among the Keroro platoon. However, there are instances when Dororo shows resentment towards Giroro, such as not doing anything to stop Keroro's bullying as kids. Nonetheless, Dororo still treats him quite fondly.
  • Pururu - Like his friends, Dororo had something of a crush toward Pururu as kids, using her birthday as a passcode for their "secret base". While showing no signs of romantic feelings since then, he still treats her very well.
    My son
  • Koyuki Azumaya - When Zeroro arrived on Pekopon, he got caught in a bear trap, and was saved by Koyuki (as well as Zeroyasha in the anime). Since then, the two became the best of friends, currently living together next to the Hinata's (the anime changed it to a small house in the woods near the Nishizawa Tower).
  • Kururu - No evidence for an actual friendship, Dororo and Kururu appear to simply be workplace proximity associates. They both admire each other's abilities while disagreeing on certain values.
  • Tamama - Tamama admires Dororo's strength and wisdom, if not above mocking him from time to time. In turn, Dororo will guide Tamama in their interactions, hoping that he grows up into a strong soldier.
  • Fuyuki - Dororo considers Fuyuki as a kind person, hopes him will stay good-hearted, and had saved him from danger more than once.
  • Mutsumi Hojo - Dororo admires Mutsumi's free spirit. In the manga, they often play shogi on rooftop and cooperate in battles successfully.
  • Zeroyasha

Speech[]

Dororo uses the archaic sentence-final particle "de gozaru", a form of 'desu'. Dororo refers to himself as sessha, an archaic male form of "I", primarily used by samurai.

In general, Dororo uses 'humble' Japanese speech. Generally, one would only use this humble form when addressing superiors. Dororo takes this to the extreme and uses humble forms of speech in almost every sentence, regardless of who he is talking to.
